Civil War Anniversary Quilts

Rosemary Youngs’ long-awaited Civil War Anniversary Quilts book is finally out. The book features 150 different quilt blocks and 3 quilts designed to commemorate the events of the Civil War.



You'll need the book for the patterns and it's available here for $27.99. Rosemary also has a companion CD that is compatible with Electric Quilt versions 5.0 through 7.0. You might want to add the CD so you can print foundations, rotary directions and/or piecing templates as desired.

We’ve always been big fans of Rosemary and her work so we are thrilled to offer all three quilts as block of the month programs. If you sign up for all three, we’ll ship them together to help you save on postage! Also, because the book gives you the option of making 3 separate quilts or combining the 150 blocks into a single quilt, we’re offering the finishing kits separately so you can decide how you want to set the blocks together. The individual block kits will closely follow the color plans of Rosemary’s blocks using our extensive selection of 1800s prints.

Using Rosemary’s guidelines, each quilt finishes approximately 82” square. Here are details on the three quilts:

First up is the Men’s Civil War Diary Quilt which features all original block designs created especially for the quilter who likes to assemble blocks with lots of pieces. This quilt makes great use of the new Civil War Ladies fabric from Marcus and we’ll include that fabric in your block kits as available.

Next is the Women’s Civil War Diary Quilt. The blocks for this design have fewer pieces than the Men’s version and are easier to assemble. Again, This quilt makes great use of the new Civil War Ladies fabric from Marcus, and we’ll include that fabric in your block kits as available.

Finally, Rosemary has a Civil War Letter Quilt, which features traditional blocks with fewer pieces that are the easiest to assemble.

With each program, you will receive fabrics to make 4 or 5 blocks per month over the course of 12 months for a total of 50 blocks per quilt. The sashing and borders kits will be available this summer so you can assemble the quilt as you go. We’ll try to match Rosemary’s selections for each of the finishing kits as closely as possible. Of course, you’re welcome to select your own sashing and borders.

We’re also offering your choice of either the Civil War Ladies or the Scenic Battle Scenes print for backing at a discount if you are part of the program. Each of the above quilts requires 5 yards of backing. Normally, $54.95, program participants may purchase backing for each of their quilts at 20% off or $43.96.

All of our Special Programs or Monthly Programs require a commitment from you for the length of the program. Signing up for a Block of the Month is the same as putting a "quilt" on lay-away". You are making a commitment to purchase the entire set of patterns or kits. You have the choice of prepaying for the entire BOM or paying on a monthly basis. There are NO exceptions to this rule, so please don't ask if you can discontinue a program once you've joined in.

Most programs have an optional finishing or sashing kit which you may decide to purchase at the end of the program. We'll give you details on the finishing kit as the program is winding down & you may decide then what to do.
